1 Samuel (Obedience and Disobedience)

Pastor Pierucki continues his overview of 1 Samuel, beginning in chapter 12 where Samuel warns Israel and their new king that blessing follows obedience and chastening follows rebellion. He applies the authority question to homes, children, government, and the local church, then traces Saul's failures in chapters 13 and 15, Jonathan's faith, God looking on the heart when David is anointed, and David facing Goliath. He closes with the covenant between Jonathan and David as a picture of Christ slaying the believer's giant of death, and warns that wrong teaching on losing salvation robs Christians of peace and joy.
“If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God: But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.”
