Deuteronomy: No Instruction Outside the Camp
Pastor Pierucki continues the church's book by book overview with Deuteronomy, using Moses speaking to all Israel gathered together as a picture of why a believer belongs inside the camp and not outside it. He works through 1 Corinthians 5 on the man delivered to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 5 on the local body and bride of Christ, Luke 14 on the cost of discipleship, Acts 20 on Paul not counting his life dear to himself, and the repeated call in Revelation 2 and 3 to hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He closes with three summary points on God as a faithful covenant keeper, God seeking the heart, and the clear choice set before His people, urging hearers to quit being consumed with self and stay surrendered and faithful.
“These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab. (There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.) And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them; After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei: On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying, The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: …”
