Preaching the Word
A guest speaker, Dave Lueloff, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Roseville, Michigan, condenses a Sunday school series into one message on the covenants of the Bible, beginning in Romans 11:1 and working through the rainbow covenant in Genesis 9, the unconditional and everlasting land covenant with Abraham in Genesis 15 and 17, the conditional Mosaic covenant in Exodus 19 through 24, and the new covenant promised to Israel in Jeremiah 31 and Hebrews 8. He explains the difference between conditional and unconditional blood covenants, touches on the seventieth week of Daniel, the 144,000, the Antichrist, and Israel being grafted in again, then closes with the new covenant in Christ's blood and what it means that a testament takes effect when the testator dies. Pastor Pierucki follows with remarks on why replacement theology is wrong and how God's everlasting covenant with Israel pictures the security of the believer.
Micah Reaves preaches from Romans 13:11-12 on the urgency of waking out of spiritual sleep, using an alarm clock and the snooze button to picture how believers put off the work God has given them. He points to 1 Thessalonians 5, 1 Corinthians 15:34, and 1 Corinthians 11 to show that Christians are children of the day who ought to be watching, sober, and examining themselves rather than assuming someone else will do their job. He closes by reminding hearers that the lost are dying every second, that God is not willing that any should perish, and that every believer has a work to do until Christ returns.
Pastor Pierucki continues his overview of 2 Kings, beginning with Elijah's departure in a whirlwind and Elisha's request for a double portion, then moving quickly through the healing of the waters, Naaman the leper, Gehazi's greed, the floating axe head, the four lepers at the Syrian camp, and the repeated pattern of kings who did evil as their fathers had done. Along the way he turns to Romans 8 on the security of the believer, 2 Chronicles 32 on Hezekiah and pride, and Galatians 5 on walking in the Spirit. He urges hearers to pray for laborers, to stop trying to fix their own lives, marriages, and prodigals apart from God, and to be faithful examples to their children and grandchildren.
