The Troubles in Numbers

Pastor Pierucki works through the book of Numbers by way of 1 Corinthians 10, where Paul says Israel's failures in the wilderness were written down as examples and warnings for believers today. He walks through the strange fire of Nadab and Abihu, the murmuring of the mixed multitude, the rebellion of Korah against God-appointed leadership, and the covetousness that finally ruined Balaam, applying each to music, separation, modesty, giving, and the danger of good men going bad. He closes by turning to Romans and Galatians to show that believers are not under the law but under grace, while the principles God laid down still stand.
“Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. …”
